Family with children recommend it for budget stay
The room wasvery comfy and tidy enough for all of us, a relief. Staff at the desk were friendly and helped us when we had some noise issues from neighbors, showing they really cared about our comfort.
It wasn't cheap, but for what you get, it's still acceptable.

A work desk, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a seating area in the room, nice location.

Te Anau is a small village by the lake and mountains. In fact, it's the last "big" town on the road from Queenstown to Milford Sound; I say last because beyond that the accommodations are counted and are not in population centers. Whoever goes to Te Anau goes to what they go to: relaxation, routes through the mountains, nature... That said, Kingsgate is a good hotel, with fairly spacious rooms, large beds, fridge, well-stocked buffet breakfast... It's across from the lake and staff are very friendly.
To say the least, although I didn't care because I had a car and I was relaxing, the hotel is about 800 m from the center, where the shops, the gas station, the restaurants, the supermarket, etc.. It's not a problem anyway. Oh, and it's a little cold in the restaurant... I went there in June.

I was almost going to leave a good review, but there was a wodge of hair in my towel, and the windows were filthy. I also expected a welcome gift for my troubles, but wow was i let down. Definitely not worth the hype and certainly doesn't live up to its promises.

Reasonably priced and close to town centre - We were able to stay an extra night when our plans changed because of the weather. Staff were obliging.
Later breakfast and hot coffee may be the only things we missed. Later breakfast meant food had been sitting too long.

The service was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable and quiet.

missingWrote a review on 12 Octpoor breakfast
The shower felt cramped, and the breakfast selection lacked variety. There was confusion with what types of eggs could be served, which seemed to frustrate both guests and waitstaff alike. Water flow in the bathroom sink was a trickle, requiring patience during wash-up. Plus, a strange absence of hand soap meant using unfamiliar facial bars instead.

I enjoyed the aspect of solitude and relaxation whilst staying at the hotel and coupled with the friendly staff, I felt that I could come and go (as I did) with no worries whatsoever.

The location is excellent, awesome for a nice easy walk along the lake to town and easy access to beautiful Te Anau. The room is spacious with a comfortable bed and offers fine views over the lake.
The hotel is in desperate need of an update. Certain amenities seemed outdated.

We only had to stay one night
A deal of noise transfer from adjacent rooms, particularly to operation of the main (sliding) door was very noisy. Food at the restaurant was ordinary. PARKING WAS A NIGHTMARE..... VEHICLE SPACES WERE BOTH TOO FEW AND TOO NARROW.

Warm, spacious upstairs studio ensuite unit with view over the Lake to the mountains. The staff were friendly and helpful. Sky sport TV in lounge area adjacent to dining room.
